With the spread of the coronavirus it is no surprise that many are now transitioning into working from home. If you are new to working remotely you might find it a little bit challenging.
This global pandemic is keeping people at home. From the usual hustle and bustle that we normally encounter everyday, suddenly the world becomes quiet. But more so, we still need to earn and work for a living. Because hunger is much scarier than the virus. This is why employers are encouraging its people to work from home. If you are new to work from home set up you might need to change some of your habits and routines to make working from home effectively. As we have different lifestyles and nature of work we will also face different challenges along the way. But let's discuss the most common issues that we will all encounter as we start working from home.
Distraction

People who are working from home sometimes struggle with productivity and can sometimes lead to procrastination. We might think we are too busy and we just wanted to finish everything all at once only to make ourselves burnout, in the end we didn't accomplish anything. So what are the distraction that we usually encounter when working at home? Let's categorize some that we might encounter along the way.
Cellphones - If we have our cellphones in our work table, often we get distracted to check who sent us text, notification from your social media sites, answering calls, checking what's trending, or online shopping. So every time you see it, it reminds you of something else, and just for that moment it pulls your focus away from whatever you are working on.
Television - We all know that TV is the number one distraction when it comes to doing our tasks and chores. Your focus and attention will be divided into watching and doing your task, tendency is that you will give in to watching TV.
People Going In and Out - One of the top distraction when you work from home can be your kid, mom yelling or even your spouse. Imagine working with kids running around, crying or fighting at each other or a spouse that ask where is the pair of his socks which already in his face!
Pets - While our fur babies can be a great stress reliever they can also be a huge distraction. There might be a time that our fur babies demand more attention from us while we are working. Pets can also cause damage to your office equipment, carpet, etc.
Work Effectively
So before you start your journey into freelancing or work from home, you should ask yourself what are some ways that I can avoid from being distracted? Here are some of the tips to help you stay focused and avoid distractions when working from home.
Declutter - Remove unnecessary things in your desk.
Get a standing desk - Study found that it increase productivity when using a stand up desk.
Get the best office chair that you can afford - As much as possible invest on this to add comfort while working from home.
Consider the location of your monitor - Where will be the location of your laptop? Is the window behind you? Watch out for glare on your screen as it causes your eyes to get tired easily.
Plan your week - Make a list of what you need to do, make it a short list at first.
Work Smart - Follow the 80/20 rule or the Pareto Principle.
Schedule your task - Create a clear working hours. Don't burn your self by trying to finish everything in one day. Always consider your sleep and health needs.
Plan Meaningful Breaks - Take A Break and do something fun!
Don't work on a couch - Working on a couch destroys posture.
Don't work in bed - working in bed creates a lot of sleep issues.
Maintain a boundary - set limitation where your family members can go while you are working.
